Upcoming Marvel Movies

1. Avengers: Secret Wars(May 7, 2027)

Direct by: Michael Waldron (writter)

Starring: Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Brie Larson, Paul Rudd, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Samuel L. Jackson, Evangeline Lilly, Tessa Thompson, Florence Pugh

Synopsis:

Secret Wars takes place on Battleworld, a planet designed specifically for the purpose of pitting Earth’s mightiest heroes and villains against one another.

Spider-Man, Cap’n America, Cap’n Marvel, Hawkeye, Iron Man, She-Hulk, Thor, the Wasp, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men are just some of the heroes who make an appearance.

The picture also has a wide variety of antagonists, but Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror and a yet-to-be-cast Doctor Doom stand out.

2. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty(May 1, 2026)

Direct by: Destin Daniel Cretton

Starring: Hailee Steinfeld, Kathryn Newton, Jonathan Majors

Synopsis:

Details on the plot of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty are scant, but we can make an educated guess on where the tale will go in the wake of Quantumania. The movie’s main antagonist, Kang the Conqueror, was banished to the Quantum Realm by the Council of Cross-Time Kangs (as seen in the epilogue). He spent a great deal of time trying to get away so that he could destroy various histories to stop his Variants from wreaking havoc and causing incursions across the multiverse. However, he is stopped by the ant family, and it appears that Kang dies at the film’s conclusion. Whether or not he’s really gone is unknown at this time, but the Council wants to prevent the Marvel heroes from exploring the multiverse because there are many, many more Variants who could pose a problem in Avengers 5.

3. Fantastic Four(July 25, 2025)

Image from the movie "Fantastic Four"
© 2024 Marvel Studios − All right reserved.

Direct by: Matt Shakman, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Stan Lee

Starring: Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm

Synopsis:

Marvel has yet to announce the premise for Fantastic Four, although Kevin Feige has stated that it will not be an origin story. The initial source of the quartet’s superpowers, exposure to cosmic rays on a scientific mission to outer space, will apparently no longer be depicted on screen. It makes natural that Marvel would take a different tack for the new film, given that the origin narrative has served as the basis for the prior adaptations. On top of that, Marvel Studios rarely uses canonical plots in their MCU productions. Namor, the Silver Surfer, Galactus, Doctor Doom, and KI’rt are just a few of the villains the next film may feature.

4. Blade (February 14, 2025)

Direct by: Yann Demange, Gene ColanStacy, Osei-Kuffour, Nic Pizzolatto

Starring: Mia Goth, Mahershala Ali, Aaron Pierre, Delroy Lindo

Synopsis:

The plot of Blade has not been revealed, although a lack of action in the script was cited as a cause for the director switch. Blade has a long history of opposing the more occult individuals in the MCU, thus the plot may borrow elements from Moon Knight or Werewolf-by-Night to see where they go.

5. Thunderbolts (May 2, 2025)

(Source: Twitter)

Direct by: Jake Schreier, Kurt Busiek, Lee Sung Jin, Eric Pearson

Starring: Florence Pugh, Harrison Ford, Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Synopsis:

Marvel’s Thunderbolts has an official synopsis that reads, “A group of antiheroes goes on missions for the government.” When the Avengers weren’t around, the Marvel Comics villain squad Masters of Evil, commanded by Baron Helmut Zemo, would pose as heroes under the name Thunderbolts.

This time around, however, it looks that CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine has organized this team, having already enlisted Yelena Belova and John Walker to work for her. Since Thaddeus Ross is a politician, he is certainly working with Val, and their more radical stances on problems in the MCU only strengthen this suspicion.

6. Captain America: Brave New World ( July 26, 2024)

Direct by: Julius Onah, Dalan Musson, Malcolm Spellman

Starring: Harrison Ford,Sebastian Stan, Liv Tyler

Synopsis:

In classic Marvel form, the plot has been kept under wraps so far. It’s looking more and more likely that Brave New World will become another critically acclaimed Marvel Cinematic Universe film like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which drew inspiration from political espionage thrillers of the 1970s like 1975’s Three Days of Condor (and featured Robert Redford as the villain, Alexander Pierce, from Condor).

The Captain America films have delved deeply into issues of dysfunctional political institutions and public distrust of government. What sort of fascist plot would Sam Wilson have to deal with is still unknown.
