Just a spoonful of sugar always made the medicine better in my childhood. Didn’t it for yours? I distinctly remember asking my teacher in second grade if I spelled ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ correctly (did I get it right?). Well, Disney is reportedly in plans to bring a different side of the Mary Poppins story to the big screen. According to Deadline.com, Disney is currently near a deal to acquire Saving Mr. Banks, a film that looks at the tension between Walt Disney and original Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers.
The script, already on the 2011 Black List (most well-liked screenplays yet to be produced), takes us through the 14-year ‘courtship’ of Disney to Travers for the Poppins story. Travers was said to be upset with the creative decisions and final product of her story, leading to a lack of future projects with Disney after Poppins. Currently rumored to star in the film are Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, as Travers.
Regardless of whether this rumor becomes true, something about the world just gets a little less colorful thinking of any animosity associated with Marry Poppins. I mean, it’s Marry Poppins. C’mon!
