Disney Theatrical Productions has announced that a Peter Pan show will be opening on Broadway next spring. Following the model of Wicked, Peter and the Starcatcher will be a prequel to the Peter Pan franchise. The characters will feature the boy who becomes Peter and even the pirate who becomes Hook, among some other favorites.
Based on the book with the same title, written by Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson, the musical play had a wildly successful Off-Broadway run last year in New York, garnering high marks from critics. No cast has been named, yet, but the show will be directed by Alex Timbers and Roger Rees, who is in the current cast of
The Addams Family. With a gang of highly acclaimed minds creating Peter and the Starcatcher, Disney seems to be aiming quite high. Of course, casting and production will ultimately determine the success of the show, but such a whimsical tale leaves all Disney fans anxiously awaiting its arrival. Maybe they’ll even bring in Dustin Hoffman to play Hook again…or at least a little Ru-Fi-O!
