
After a somewhat slow start at the box office, The Little Mermaid has reached a milestone of $500 million worldwide.
As Deadline reported, The Little Mermaid grossed an additional $8.6 million in its fifth weekend at the box office, along with $9.4 million overseas. Those figures bring its domestic total to $270.2 million and its foreign total to $229.1 million, for a worldwide total of $499.3 million.
According to reports, the film was produced on a $250 million budget, with reports claiming it would need to earn $560 million worldwide to break even, after a massive marketing campaign is taken into account.
