Disney has released a trailer for their upcoming documentary Finding Michael, which is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ on March 3rd, 2023.
In 1999, Michael Matthews achieved a feat that many only dreamed of: he became the youngest British national to ever summit Mount Everest. However, his triumph was short-lived, as he disappeared just three hours after reaching the pinnacle and was never seen again. His brother, the accomplished entrepreneur, and broadcaster Spencer Matthews, who was only ten at the time of Michael’s disappearance, has always harbored doubts about his sibling’s death. Fast forward over two decades later, and Spencer receives a photograph of a body on the mountain that may be Michael’s. He sets off to Nepal and enlists the services of Nims Purja, the world record holder for summiting 14 peaks, to lead a team in the search for his brother in Everest’s perilous “Death Zone.” At an extreme altitude of over 8000m, the team is compelled to rely on a ten-man search crew, equipped with drones and the skills necessary to venture off the summit lines. However, as inclement weather looms, they face a litany of unanticipated obstacles and an ever-dwindling amount of time in their mission to uncover the truth.
