When Disney Pixar’s Brave was released in 2012, it marked several milestones in the history of animated films. The title itself is a fitting tribute to the film’s many firsts: it is a film that featured the talents of Pixar’s first female director, Brenda Chapman; it also made use of the most complex animated visual effects at Pixar’s disposal at that time causing an overhaul on Pixar’s animation system; and the first ever animated film to make use of the Dolby Atmos sound format. Plus, the story in itself is a maverick attempt to go against conventions to pursue what is truly the desire of one’s heart.
Consequently, Brave bagged the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature, and was also honored with the Golden Globes Best Animated Feature Film both in 2013. Overall, it earned a total of 19 awards, including 48 nominations – a testament to the superb story telling magic of Disney and Pixar that resonates with the powerful message of courageously pursuing your dreams while strengthening family bonds at the same time.
