Amidst blue and red lightsaber wielding fans, Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley and Director J.J. Abrams took center stage during Sunday night’s 25th Annual MTV Movie Awards as they warmly accepted the golden-laced popcorn trophy for Best Movie of the Year. The third-highest grossing film of all time following behind the likes of Avatar (2009) and Titanic (1997), Star Wars: The Force Awakens led the MTV movie awards night with 11 nominations and managed to stand out against Jurassic World and Avengers: Age of Ultron for movie of the year.

Other than Best Movie of the Year, the latest instalment in the Star Wars canon also saw Daisy Ridley bagging the award for Best Breakthrough Performance, and Adam Driver for Best Villain for his role as the insecure and volatile Sith Lord in-the-making, Kylo Ren.  “It’s especially amazing to be part of a film that represents all genders — two genders — and races and ages in such a positive and inspirational way,” Ridley said. Here’s a clip from the MTV Movie awards night showing Director J.J. Abrams on stage together with Daisy Ridley after receiving their award from presenters Samuel L. Jackson and Alexander Skarsgard (whom by the way went onstage wearing a sleek tuxedo jacket minus the pants).

The award couldn’t be a more fitting gift for Ridley considering that Sunday also saw the young British actress celebrating her 24th birthday. Just after a few moments after the award, Ridley took to Instagram her words of sincere thanks for all those who supported her.
