Marvel’s Luke Cage is the next series that’s slated to debut on Netflix. Following the success of other Marvel TV series such as Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Luke Cage was initially thought to hit the screens this November. However sources claim that the release date might be sooner than expected. The bulletproof skinned super hero will be played by Mike Colter on “a street-level superhero drama that will embrace the mature tone of its predecessors”, according to ScreenRant. Currently in production, Luke Cage is the third in Marvel’s four-part series featured in Netflix. The first two being the Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Luke Cage will be followed by the Iron Fist that will culminate in the Defenders mini-series.

Executive Producer and showrunner for the Luke Cage series, Cheo Hodari Coker says that they have started production since early September of last year, while a recent post on Jessica Jones’s promotional Twitter account further suggest that the series might air on Netflix by November. However, ScreenRant reports that Luke Cage may actually be aiming for an earlier summer premiere. Citing sources from Blackfim.com, ScreenRant notes that “it’s not out of the question that Luke Cage season 1 may well launch before mid-to-late October (i.e. seven months after Daredevil season 2) – especially seeing as Marvel appears to be increasing its Netflix show output.”

Netflix seems to have its comic book series spread by 5 to 7 months. For example, Season 1 of Daredevil started streaming in April 2015 and seven months after that came Jessica Jones in November. Netflix already announced that Season 2 of Daredevil will air on March 18 so a late Summer release for Luke Cage seems possible since it would be arriving at least five months afterwards. The timing couldn’t be better since the upcoming San Diego Comic Con may provide the necessary promotions expected from fans. More so, the scheduled release of the MCU films such as the Captain America: Civil War on May of this year, and Doctor Strange by November, will offer a huge momentum in the promotions of the Netflix series.

We just have to probably wait and see how Luke Cage will fit in the grander scheme of things of Marvel. Daredevil season 1 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix, while Daredevil season 2 will debut on March 18th, 2016, followed by Luke Cage season 1 towards the end of 2016. Release dates for Iron Fist and The Defenders on Netflix will be announced soon.
