‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Slams Sexist Comments, Drops Mic

In just under four months Star Wars: The Force Awakens FINALLY hits theaters. It’s poised to be an incredible restart to one of the most iconic film franchises of all-time, and will feature many of the old characters everyone knows and remember from the 80’s. But there will also be some fresh faces gracing the screen, as well. One in particular caused a little stir recently when photos of the character’s outfit were released.

Because it’s a girl.

On their Facebook page Star Wars highlighted some fan art of the new characters, including this entry from Seth Groves:

Looks incredible, right? (Well done, Seth.) This is Captain Phasma, and the Cap’n looks fierce. And underneath the armor of Phasma will be none other than the lovely Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones). Yep…a girl. This girl.

Yet the armor doesn’t feature ‘female features,’ which caused a little confusion for one fan, to which Star Wars replied brilliantly:

Boom. Drop the mic. See ya in December. Christie is an incredible actress that will surely improve any film  she joins. Can’t. Wait.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens December 18, 2015.
