The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is one of the most successful Disney ever produced. Yet the fourth installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was missing a key element that both audiences and the film really needed: Orlando Bloom. The absence of Jack Sparrow’s sidekick/rival/friend Will Turner made the fourth movie feel like more of a spinoff than a continuation of the popular franchise. And it sounds like Disney noticed it, too.
The fifth Pirates movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, is set to bring ol’ Bootstrap Bill’s son back in tow. Orlando Bloom’s announcement came at D23 recently, but not from his own mouth. No, Disney recruited someone else to speak for him. Who? Who do you think? Cap’n Jack Sparrow of course!
Speaking to the audience, and throwing grapes at them, Johnny Depp, in full Sparrow-garb, won the crowd and fans around when he announced Bloom was joining the team again. Disney also released a synopsis of the film to keep you anticipating it further:
“Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea… including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.”
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is slated for a July 2017 release!
