One of the most successful comedies in Disney history is getting revived. Back from the dead. Resurrected. And all God’s people said…Amen! Hallelujah!
Sister Act, the 1992 comedy featuring Whoopi Goldberg as a lounge singer who finds a new protective life as a sister at a San Francisco convent, was an instant success for Disney, Goldberg, and even helped launch the career of Grammy-winning artist Lauryn Hill in Sister Act 2. Goldberg’s character, Deloris-turned-Sister Mary Clarence, escapes danger from her boyfriend by going to a San Francisco convent and then proceeds to blow away the other nuns with her brash nature, flamboyant style and desire for theatrics in musical style. It’s an incredible story, but not much is known on how the revived installment will continue it. Or, crazy enough, if Whoopi Goldberg will even reprise her role.
Regardless, it’s sure to be a success when released, hitting nostalgic points with parents in their 30’s and the next generation of Mouseketeers alike. In case you’ve forgotten, here’s the trailer for the original film released nearly 25 years ago (in all of it’s early 1990’s trailer glory).
