Already garnering a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating at 91% on Rottentomatoes.com, Big Hero 6 had an incredible opening weekend at the box office. Paired up against a blockbuster in Interstellar the Disney film raked in $56.2M to top all other movies! In what ended up being a strong weekend for the debut films, it marked only the fourth time that two movies have opened to over $50M in ticket sales. Well done, Christopher Nolan, but you got nothing on Disney.
Big Hero 6 follows the story of Hiro Hamada and his inflatable plus-sized robot, Baymax, as they form a band of unforeseen heroes. The success of Big Hero 6 shouldn’t come as a surprise for the Disney animation team that is riding a hot streak after massive success in Wreck-It-Ralph and Frozen. For a while there Disney was considered the add-on partner to Pixar’s success, but they’re proving their own worth once again as the titanic of animation studios.
