Disney Light On 2014 Oscar Nominations

The 85th Academy Awards® will air live on Oscar® Sunday, February 24, 2013.

Last week the 2014 Oscar Awards nominations were released. Disney had some incredible movies hit the box office this past year, but unfortunately, Disney has a relatively weak showing in this year’s nominations. Headlined by Gravity and American Hustle with 10 nominations each, the array of movies stretch from giant blockbusters to black and white small budget projects.

There are no animated or foreign films up for ‘Best Picture’ this year, and while Disney got snubbed in multiple categories, most notably for Saving Mr. Banks, they did receive multiple nods. Here is a list of the 2014 Oscar nominations of Disney films:

Best Animated Film

Best Makeup & Hairstyling
The Lone Ranger

Best Original Score
Thomas Newman, Saving Mr. Banks

Best Original Song
“Let It Go”, Frozen

Best Visual Effects
The Lone Ranger
Iron Man 3 (Marvel)

We’ll see how man they win. With no knockouts like Lincoln this year, hopefully Disney can still reel in a few trophies.

The 86th Academy Awards air Sunday, March 2.

  1. I thought Saving Mr. Banks was wonderful! I am not sure why the Oscars did not think so?! I think the actors are great in Gravity, but the plot does not interest me AT ALL. American Hustle was more interesting, but I still think Saving Mr. Banks was heartfelt and personal.
