At the recent D23 Expo in Japan, Disney unveiled plans for the newest addition to one of their storied Kingdoms at Disney World. Animal Kingdom, which features the safariesque landscape that places the visitor in the heart of the Lion King film, will get a fresh take on the animal environment with an Avatar-inspired Land! The expansion, which is scheduled for a 2017 completion, will be the largest in Animal Kingdom history.
If you’ve seen Avatar, you know that the color scheme and beauty of Pandora, the fictional alien world of the movie, is unlike anything found on this planet. The vibrant colors and expansive environments will allow the Disney Imagineering team, in partnering with Avatar director James Cameron, to get as creative as possible. Plans are for floating islands, a luminescent jungle once the sun goes down, and Banshee rides, the giant dragon-style creatures from the film. It may be a lot to take in, but it must be to match the aura of one of the most creative and largest films in history.
‘Avatar Land’ will host numerous attractions, interactive elements, and plenty of shops for the visitor. This is truly something to stay tuned for, as it lines up to be one of the biggest expansions for Disney World in the past decade.
