The Good Dinosaur, Disney/Pixar’s upcoming film that begs the question, ‘What if the asteroid that annihilated the dinosaurs never hit the earth?,’ is about to experience some dramatic changes. Director Bob Peterson has been outed from the helm, leaving the film without it’s leader. There are plenty of incredible options from previous Disney/Pixar gems, but surprisingly, this is not the first time Pixar has played this card.
In recent films such as Ratatouille, Toy Story 2, Cars 2 and Brave Pixar canned its director while still in production. This was going to be Peterson’s debut with Pixar, but not anymore. Pixar President Ed Catmull recently told the Los Angeles Times, ‘All directors get really deep in their films. Sometimes you just need a different perspective to get the idea out. Sometimes directors … are so deeply embedded in their ideas it actually takes someone else to finish it up. I would go so far as to argue that a lot of live-action films would be better off with that same process.’
Seems like Pixar has some creativity calamity going on for this project. When a new director is announced, we’ll be sure to share it with you!
The Good Dinosaur is scheduled for a May 30, 2014 release!
