…Box Office History! So it’s been hyped, talked about, discussed, dreamed of, and now finally this weekend the many years-in-the-waiting The Avengers made its debut in the US theaters. Oh…and as if that wasn’t enough, the film went ahead and broke every major opening weekend box office record! Seriously…(I could probably exclamation mark the rest of this entire post! Exclamation mark!)
With a rake of $207.4M (updated), The Avengers became the first film in movie history to break the $200M mark in a three-day opening weekend! The movie almost brought in as much as Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man combined in their US openings. Currently worldwide the movie has brought in over $650M! Not only did the overall numbers blow away any other film, but The Avengers also set records for IMAX opening weekend ($15M). To put the enormity of The Avengers opening into perspective, the second highest grossing film in an opening weekend was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 at $169.2M…that’s over $30M higher than its closest competition. Insane. Haha, the funniest of all the stats, though, may be that the film was #1 at the box office this weekend by more than 2500% over #2, Think Like a Man. Haha…2500%!
So for all my clamoring and drooling over the film, the critics were actually very high, as well, with sites such as rottentomatoes.com giving The Avengers a 93% fresh rating. Simply. Incredible.
Now stop reading and go see it if you haven’t. And if you have…go for the second time. Let’s make sure that a movie like Titanic loses its aura because of the unbeatable force of superheroes known as The Avengers!
