Nearly two years in the making, Disney is finally set to release their highly-anticipated follow-up to their hit Tron: Legacy with: Tron: Uprising! Feeding off of the comic book partnership Disney has with Marvel, Tron: Uprising will be one of the first feature shows for the upcoming ‘Disney XD‘ Channel, which we discussed at the end of last week.
TRON: Uprising will take place in the time between the original TRON and it’s sequel, TRON: Legacy. According to Gary Marsh, Disney Channels’ President and Chief Creative Officer, the series will ‘begin’ in June. The reason for the quotes? Starting in April, Disney plans on releasing ten ‘micro-sodes’ that are each three minutes long. Whether they will serve as a refresher to the original TRON film (1982), or simply provide a back story to its characters, these short vignettes will only amp up the hype surrounding the series.
One of the unique elements of the TRON world is the incredible, beyond its time, graphics that are integral to the story. In order to fully capture the essence of this the series will feature a combination of traditional 2D with 3D CG animation.
Here’s a preview from Marsh of where Tron: Uprising takes off:
What’s happened is that Tron has been badly injured by villainous Clu, but he has found a protege, a brilliant young mechanic, who is another program like himself, named Beck and voiced by Elijah Wood, who TRON decides he is going to train to be the next TRON.
And here’s the initial trailer released at Comic-Con 2011 for the series:
