One of the more popular children’s television shows in the UK, ‘Octonauts’, will be making it’s way over to America this month, January 9, 2012. Only debuting a year ago, the show has received high praise and wild popularity, being nominated for awards in it’s premiere year. Aimed at preschoolers, ‘Octonauts’ will be featured on Disney Channel’s Disney Juniors programming block.

Based on four books, the show has a developed backstory that will continue to provide fun for it’s viewers on the Disney Channel. The four titles, first published in 2006, are:

The Octonauts & the Great Ghost Reef, about a dying coral reef,
And here’s the official description of what to expect from ‘Octonauts’:
In each 22-minute episode, Captain Barnacles, Lieutenant Kwazii and Medic Peso receive an “octo alert,” which serves as a call to action for the heroes to embark on the day’s mission. With help from their extended crew –Tweak, a bunny mechanical engineer; Shellington, a marine biologist sea otter; Dashi, a dependable dog who serves as the Octonauts’ official mission photographer; Professor Inkling, the Octonauts’ octopus founder; and Tunip, a special breed of underwater sea creature called a vegimal – the team sets out to explore, rescue and protect their unique underwater habitat.
The show will air on Disney Channel’s Disney Junior block at 11:30 AM EST/PST on weekdays beginning Monday, January 9, 2012, and on weekends at 7:00 AM EST/PST.
