Disney Partnering with James Cameron on Avatar Land in Animal Kingdom Theme Park

Avatar Disney Animal Kingdom

The Disney Parks Blog broke news yesterday that they were holding a special press conference at Imagineering.  What for you ask?  Well, Bob Iger (President and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company) and Tom Staggs (Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts) just announced a long-term creative partnership with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox Filmed Entertainment.  That partnership will bring the world of “Avatar” to guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park in Walt Disney World.  Construction on the project is set to start in 2013.

With “Avatar” grossing $2.783 billion worldwide, and two sequels in the works, this will be Disney’s call to Universal Orlando Resort’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  The “Avatar” themed land will also fill in the gap where the never-developed “Beastly Kingdom” was supposed to sit at the Animal Kingdom Theme Park.
