Concept art renderings appeared this afternoon at the Shanghai Daily for Disney’s largest castle to date which is being crafted for the new Shanghai Disney Resort. My first thought when I saw the photo was Beauty and the Beast. The royal blue and gold colors reminded me of Belle’s Ballgown and the Beast’s Tux. Another correlation, the castle is to be called “Storybook Castle” and what did princess Belle like to read? Hmmm…. I’m sensing a theme here. Naming the castle as such, an array of princesses will be able to appear within the castle. The domed ceiling, arched windows and winding staircases are also reminiscent of the Grand Ballroom inside of Beast’s Castle. A ferry attraction will depart from Storybook Castle and take guests on a journey throughout the theme park. When will Shanghai Disney open? Tentatively in 2016.
